Here in Jersey (yay!) many owners use a white plastic film shrink wrap service to wintercover their boats. It seems to work ok for newer 'glass hulls, so a couple of years ago I gave it a try. In the spring I took the wrap off and found hundreds of tiny bubbles in the hull paint (my Ariel is painted, like many other older hulls). While preparing to disembowel the shrink wrapper, I talked to a salty old marine surveyor, and his first question to me was "is the hull painted?" It seems the paint film can't tolerate the heat guns used to contract the plastic film, and forms mini blisters. Shrink wrapping is done at the risk of the owner in my yard,so I was S.O.L.

From now on, my cover is a nice airy tarp.
