Notice in the Manual on pg148
a diagram of the Ariel deck with locations for jib and genoa track.

It would be helpful to have a diagram for Commander
if it is different in any way.

I believe that the sail plan is the same for the ariel & Commander. (Same hull, same mast - it is just the shape of the cabintop underneath that is different...)

In any case, I do not think there is a simple answer to that question... It depends on which sail(s) are being used.

For example; the sheet angle will vary depending on:

a) The size of the sail. Even if you only use a single sail, the shape / cut of the sail you are using is likely different from other sails. Also, the sail's dimensions and cut can vary; e.g. the height of the clew. (The original design for the sails incorporated a very high clew, which may not be the case with yours. - most modern sails shapes are deck sweepers) The angle will vary in each case depending these various sail parameters.

b) The location of your hardware. Do you have fixed hardware, or an adjustable block on a track? If it is fixed, then the angle will depend on 'a' above. If you have adjustable hardware, then 'b' will be a factor, in addition to:

c) the weather conditions,

d) your desired sail trim

- So I'd say that the sheeting angle is whatever gives you the best performing sail trim for your particular sail in the point of sail you are sailing, in the specific conditions...

Hmmm... Did I read too much into your question?
