I like Garhauer's clutches. They're big, kind of 'blocky', and built like a brick house (add your own adjective). Some other company's have smooth, shapely, almost sexy looking clutches. Hey! We're talking boat parts here...right?

We also have a set of Spin-locks and a set of lewmars, if I recall correctly, but I don't think they're going to make if onto #113. Maybe one on the mast. If you hold Garhauers' in one hand and a brand Xs' in the other, you really will notice a difference. Not that big and heavy is everything. Hey! We're talking boat parts here...right?

My sailing instructor has port and starboard quads on his Ariel in front of the cabintop winches. Influenced me to buy a simular pair at the last boat show - weren't cheap, cost more than the vang I'm getting. Got money's worth in weight tho, they're about 5#s each.

The handles are colored (red, blue, green, black) so the novice can be told to cinch up on the red one. How it works with other brands don't know, but you can cinch up on the Garhauer in the closed/locked position. Sweet. Obviously halyards will be held in nearly the same place all the time - yet I did not see any obvious deformation in the clamped part of the line. The design is such that you can instantly see if a clamp is on or off, as the handle must go thru a 180degree arc.

Don't think G. makes smaller versions of these line holders. Maybe you could run 5/8s line in the holes. Think you could find these babies on 100' round the world racers. They are really nicely made s___kicking 'boat parts' in a right-on form-follows-function Garhauer design. It looks like you could disassemble them if you had to. :D

Put two Garhauer triples on Charisma during the re-do and they are tough, and work precisely. Tough equipment for a tough boat.

No middleman for Garhauer. You deal direct. And you probably will be talking with the mom, who I met at the show, and stupidly forgot her name.

As I said befor, it isn't really possible in the real world that an outfit like this can continue to exist. Or the prices for the quality you get. You have to take advantage of it now. I joked with mom G about how maybe West Magoo was gonna get them on a leveraged buy out! "No way. EVER" was the approximate answer. It may take time or a little longer but you are dealing with the 'factory' and the people who are designing and making these gorgeous (and almost personal) tools.
