Welcome Gil. Just in case you haven't already, there are a lot of listings that members have reposted here under the "General/Off-Topic" thread in which you posted this. Many many be old, but don't discount them. Also comb through your local Craig's List and www.sailboatlistings.com. (Here's a site that searches Craigs List that you may find helpful: www.list-alert.com )

You may also want to consider a Commander as well as the Ariel. I've always been a little jealous of their cockpits, but I think the Ariels just sail better.

Be patient, this is a good time of year to be looking. Good luck and keep us posted on how your search is going!

    Ariel Wanted

Thank you for the links and the encouragement. I have found a few that looked on the web but sooooo far away. The cost to look at and then move the boats to NC was way over 1/2 the purchase price. I will search the creeks and marinas too. Eventually one will find me. Interesting for me as I grew up sailing Narragansett Bay most often in a Pearson.

    Thank you carl291.
I did take a look at Blue Moon on line. She has quite a history and certainly has quiet a bit of stuff on board.
The winches are very nice but the pics of the bottom do not look so good.
Tough to tell what is going on in a photo but it was redone perhaps 6 or so years ago ?
I guess I rather just have a bare bones boat.
Mostly, if not all, original boat so that I am not repairing another persons repair.
The only exception to that would be the engine.
That I want new or almost new, or none as I really like the out board in a well model.
Bring the engine to the mechanic, less wiring in the boat. More space and perhaps more provision/water capacity.
I see what I want out there, but so far away.
Use patience or just bite the bullet ?
For now, I wait a little.

Gee...I see a P Vanguard in St Thomas...maybe...no that's crazy. Bigger than I need & I want to sail the boat here in NC for awhile to set her up. I also see a Bristol Corsair in Conn. but the seller has not gotten back to me, and I just like the Ariel better. Massachusetts is the closest one I have found for sale so far. Still looking.

Gil, there was a nice looking Ariel in Long Island lately. I think it may have been posted on here or in the usual "for sale" channels...

Well, I do wish to be kind to those selling boats so i will give this my best shot. The Meridian is a good boat and priced accordingly I guess. I have inquired about it and there are soft decks and quite a few issues to deal with. I really do not want a boat that needs major work. More in the market for a boat that has been pampered and then continue that care. The Ariel in NY seemed very interesting despite that it is a 15 hour drive away and I have to add the cost of having the boat moved here. About 2K. When I told the owner that I was considering sailing the boat to NC he advised me against it and stated that he did not think that was a good idea ? He was not really clear on why it was a bad idea. When I have bought things where the deal did not seem quite right, it was never a good thing. I am looking for the sailor that is ready to give up care of his beauty to someone with the skill level to maintain the boat carefully. A dream purchase ? Perhaps. But then sailors have a tendency to do that kind of dreaming, no ?

In the past, Peter has submitted articles on upgrades he's done to A-26 for publication in the ACYA occasional newsletter. My impression is that she's ". . been pampered and (had) . . that care." Peter is a long time owner who feels age is getting in the way of enjoying his Ariel. Not sure why he is against sailing her down the coast. That should be a piece of cake. IMCO, it's worth the drive to see the boat.

Bill, thank you and we are taking this under advisement. I am from RI so perhaps a trip home is in order with a stop to see Peters Ariel.
