Last eclipse on a winter solstice was in 1638.
Nothing much else happened in 1638
except the first witch seems to have been tracked down in New England that year.

Hats off to the scheduler - unfortunately, the clouds are not cooperating here in Maine, so we'll have to pretend to howl at the blood-red moon tonight.
