    Katydid Hull 295

We just bought Hull 295. She's named Katydid. She's in pretty good shape. The brightwork and topside paint need completely sanded and redone but she sails wonderful. We've already taken her for an overnight cruise in the San Jaun's next big sail will be to move her from Anacortes to Everrett. After we tackle the issues listed above we plan on moving inside and start on a full restore. The end goal is to have her looking better then new.

    Talking

    That's so nice!
    Good for you!

Name reminds me of a William Atkin's tiny round sided flat bottom pram with a seat down the center named Katydidn't.
It is 6'6" long and less than 4' wide. Good candidate for an Ariel....

    Great looking boat

I plan on parking #331 up in Anacortes next year after her refit. Please keep us informed.

    nice to meet you

Anacortes is nice. We are moving her to shilshole when a slip opens. We love Anacortes but we are in Seattle so the drive sucks. Shilshole will give us good ocean sailing and still a nice sail to the islands for camping. Where do you have her now? What kinda refit are you doing? Currently we have to do an engine rebuild. She came with a johnson15 but it's acting odd. Sunday after sailing it died twice. We are thinking fuel filter or carb. Going to do some cleanup of it and see what we can do. Probably have to do a rebuild just need to find a shop and figure the price.

    Long Drive LOL

Well I live in Northern California at the bottom of the Mendocino National Forest better known as the Smokies these days.

Pictures of my boat can be seen at the #331 gallery. I recently purchased a trailer that will allow me to bring her from Sausalito up to my place refit the inside and finish and paint the outside. Next Spring I intend to bring her up to Anacortes for a season or more.

Welcome and congrats! Nice looking Ariel. Looks like you picked up someone's well-loved little boat with lots of interesting details.

Would you mind posting more pics of:
    1. Anchor platform
    2. Toe rail
    3. Forward hatch
    4. In the second to last picture, there is some sort of block in front of your aft chainplate - is that for an adjustable backstay?

(You should know we like pictures around here.)

We're lacking in good detail photos of our toe rails, but we do have some nice ones of the forward hatch inside and out as well as the anchor platform.

I believe you're referring to our topping lift setup with the block in front of the aft chainplate?

We'll be posting some more detail photos as we work to restore the brightwork and new deck painting.

Thanks for the pics. Topping lift? I guess I've never seen one set up back there...

Yeah, when we did our test sail and initial look at her we weren't actually sure what it was ourselves. Does make for nice in dock headroom though as you can see in the first set of photos.

So good to see someone else from Anacortes, AND in our own marina! Sorry to see Katydid leaving though. We have always wanted to meet the owners. She is after all one of very few Ariels in Cap Sante. Sorry to see you leave but will look for you on the water.

We have hull #294 the GWA'WIS just across the way in K36

We liked Anacortes just to long a drive to get to sail. Now she is closer and we can sail her more and start all the TLC she needs and deservers. Have you checked out the Ariel that sold for like 12k 2 years ago on the end dock? The one with the nice teak cockpit may? That is our end goal.

Yeah I can understand the need to be close to the boat. We can practically see the Gwa'Wis from where we live so totally understand.

No did not see that boat, we just moved here a year ago, boy that must have been something!!

We plan to keep the Wis as stock as possible unless some compelling reason comes along to change her.

Sounds like you have a really big project coming along. Good luck and don't forget to post LOTS of pics!!

Are you talking about the "Spirit Wind"?? Has a really nice teak cockpit floor grid-work??

If so, that is one pretty boat!!
