Wow! France now too! These little boats get around.

I've never seen an Ariel sit on her lines that well. I wonder what the trick is.

    HELLO again!

Monsieur GRINDEL first appeared on a >scuppers< thread more than a year ago.

He's located in the south of France a stones throw from the Rivera.

    Thank you for the compliments.
grindel is in france since 1963
before my father my grand-father was the owner since 1971
he sit on her lines that well since we have change the heavy original "diesel" engine (200kg) and her tank by a new outbord 4 stroke engine (37 kg) and now he was equiped for short near the shore sail 1 to 10 days (only two anchor 1 chain 80 litres of water i think 20 galon some tools..).
I think you must have had difficulty understanding me

Merci beaucoup, monsieur! Elle est une belle dame!!!

Thanks for the pictures - they are great, too. If they were larger, I would put them on my computer.

I thought she sat well on her lines because she was so pleased to be in clear, blue, 75degree water. I know I would float nicer if I were there...

BTW- I'm installing a new toilet in my boat today and it is 23degrees out with 25mph winds. Happy spring!

    whoa!

    In the Med since 1963?
Unless she got to France on the back of a freighter that would make Grindel the earliest voyager!

That first photo in your second set has to be the most inviting, pleasant, romantic photos of the Ariel I've seen! White hull charging along with creme brulee in her teeth, chased by a smiling yellow dolphin, her pristine sails perfectly set, and a centuries old bastion rising out of the hillside in the background - wow!

Really soothes - that shot. Never thought too much about it, but a Ariel that doesn't race doesn't need her class number plastered on her main. That little boat looks SO beautiful without tattoos.

Something about that boat... Not sure if its the azure blue water or the white on white but it is the prettiest photograph I have seen of an Ariel underway!

Please post more details and pictures. How did it get to France?

    Andrew

PS Your English is MUCH better than my French!

    Post E-mail From Christian

We had some early correspondence with Christian Simonnot and learned that he lives in Sollies-pont France. Here is a portion of an E-mail from early 2006. We edited it a bit for clarity.

    >>>>>
Solliès-pont is located at 20 km in the north-west of La londe.

I think that the boat crossed the Atlantic under a cargo liner, the preceding owner had imported it. It was registered in France in 1963 at Saint Mandrier (in the bay of Toulon) under the name Grindel.

My grandfather bought the boat from the first owner in 1976 in Saint Mandrier (my father thinks that the first owner was English or American). Grandfather sailed around Hyeres island, Corse, and sometime Baleares Island and Spain.

When I was a young boy I spent a lot of summer holidays on Grindel with my Grandfather. Later, I sailed with my parents and now I sail with my wife and son.

At first GRINDEL had a inboard engine (Volvo-Penta MD5), since 2002 she is equiped with 8 HP 4 stroke Yamaha outboard located in the transom. In 1976 my Grandfather installed a "home made" roller furlling jib made with wood and bronze (in 1994 we replaced wood with aluminum section). We removed liston(?) and changed all the port-holes. The "boom" was also replaced, but it is like original.

    Salutations,
    Christian
