    Alternative Tiller Arrangements

Not to take away from Ebb's tiller head discussion, but hopefully add to it. While he's reinventing the tiller head, maybe an alternative setup could work also? An idea rattling around for awhile has been an alternate tiller arrangement. The fundamental intent being to clear space in the cockpit (obviously NOT an issue for our Commander bretheren!)

Early on, I looked at a Tartan 27 with a small wheel mounted on the aft end of the cockpit, with provisions for using the original tiller in the original location. Kind of cool when sailing with lots of guests. The steering center would be removed from the center of the cockpit with the wheel fitted, as it would also with a tiller arrangement like this. This picture is from a very modified Triton, I believe.

One obvious and necessary modification would be a longer rudder shaft...
