Pearson Ariel mini cruiser, sleeps two, portapotty,two new water tanks, all kinds of good equipment. It has a furuno radar, furuno loran, gps, shaefer furling jib, full batten main on mast track, (both sails in v. good shape,) motor is off the transum. 6 hp engine. Bottom painted this year. Presently in the water at Stepping Stone Park on LI.

The Boat will need the Main halyard replaced over the winter - for now I am using the topping lift. Aesthetically, I the teakboards need attention.

Boat is a very solid, extensive gear, depth sounder, knot meter,wind speed indicator,VHF,Older gps, two auto pilots, and dodger, old but usable.

I've tried contacting the owner several times now, with no luck. Either it sold fast(I suspect that is the case) or the add was faulty. SHUCKS!(yeah, sure shucks my petoot! heh)

The Pearson Ariel was designed by renowned naval architect Carl Alberg in 1961 for Pearson Yachts of Bristol, Rhode Island. Although the model was only produced from 1962 to 1967 (for a total of over 400 boats) the Ariel continues to have a devoted following to this day with active racing and cruising enthusiasts alike. With her shoal-draft capability, stiffness in heavier air and surprising space below decks the Pearson Ariel adds up to what some would call the perfect definition of a pocket cruiser. Check out pearsonariel.org This Ariel is loaded with features and can be sailed away, but she could use some elbow grease over the winter. The boat has a schaffer roller furling system on a genoa in good shape, and has a mast sail track for a full batten mainsail which is in really good shape. If you have never used a sailtrack system it makes taking the main up and down much easier than you can imagine. (see closeup) Please not that the running rigging was Brand New in 2006. The engine is a 9.9 manual start with an alternator. The boat has wind, speed and depth indicators from Datamarine Instruments, and a Furano Radar system. The boat is also loaded with additional equipment including two electronic autopilots, forsepar whisker pole. The full set of cockpit cushions make life great.(see picture) Unfortunately in the last few weeks I jammed the main halyard at the top of the mast, and have been using the topping lift as a main halyard. This is why the boom is on the side of the boat in later pictures. This should be an easy fix. I was also going to strip the paint off the wood sideboards and go back to varnished mahogany. This boat cannot be stored at the present location after Nov. 1, 2006. There is a ramp at the location, but I do not have a trailer, nor do I know someone with a trailer. The boat is at stepping stone park in kings point Long Island. She is not locked.

He makes it sound as if the track for the main sail is something special. I thought all Ariels/Commanders came like this? How else would the main be attached to the mast?

That big motor so far aft looks dangerous! I would seriously consider reopening the well, there was a lot of discussion about this before, I remember that. On the other hand, radar! Never saw an Ariel with radar before . That's why he needs the alternator, I guess!

some older boats (Venture for one, predecessor to MacGreggor) had what I called sail slugs that fit into a U shaped slot on the mast. having used both, I don't see a lot of difference. as long as you have it well waxed, either works well.

Yeah, I've seen those slugs on small boats, I realize now his comment was not meant to emphasize that his boat is special in this way.
The auction ended at around $1300. If the boat went for that price the new owner seems to have gotten an amazing bargain indeed. Let's see if he checks into the forum.
