    Exclamation 2014 hoppe regatta results

The 2014 Hoppe Regatta saw three eager contenders hit the starting line: NEMESIS [C-151], DUST [C-281] and LADY J [A-312]. This year, all of the skippers took the counter clockwise course around Angel Island. That meant the race committee needed to only look in one direction to watch for the yachts as they finished!

The afternoon for the race committee did not bo a planned. The committee had settled in for a relaxing day of champagne and conversation, when the racing fleet was suddenly sited as it entered the Eastern end of Racoon Straight. It had been less than an hour since the start!

The race committee watched as the yachts, still fighting for position, quickly approached the finish line. It was close, but NEMESIS managed to slip ahead of DUST to take the winning gun. LADY J, unfortunately, had sailed into a wind hole, but she still finished in high sprits. Time for the winning boat was one hour and ten minutes. Later, at the awards dinner, we learned that the lead had changed several times as the three yachts battled for position behind Angel Island. Here are the boat’s and their crews, in finishing order:

    C-151 Nemesis
    Jeff Sullivan (skipper)
    Connor Sullivan
    Len Cretcher
    Drake Woodsom

    C-281 Dust
    Brian Kennedy (skipper)
    Dan Daronis

    A-312 Lady J
    Robbie Benson (skipper)
    Shawn Demeer

Not everyone involved in the regatta was able to attend the dinner and awards ceremony at the Oakland Yacht Club, but family members joined, thus adding to the gathering. Discussions following the trophy presentation resulted in everyone agreeing on a date for the 2015 Hoppe: June 27, the first Saturday following the Summer Solstice. SAVE THE DATE!
