Those pictures made me curious and, as it turns out, I'd run into 'Wave' on the bay this last summer... We've traded a couple of e-mails (I was curious!) and here is a bit more info from the owner:

    Hull number: 188
And a bit more from the owner:

"The reason that I'm selling WAVE afternearly 25 years is that I've just acquired a new boat, a Dreadnaught 32, which will allow me to cruise more comfortably up and down the coast.

WAVE is in great shape. The outboard, an 8 horsepower Sea Horse, is a little heavy to lift in and out of the engine well, but what a difference motoring from a 5 hpr engine!
The boat is ready for inspection and/or a sail."

Thanks so much for the posts! I've also e-mailed the owner & hope to purchase. Haven't heard from him in several days (I think he may be out on his dreadnaught). Your comments are reassuring for this venture. If this particular deal doesn't work out I will be on the hunt for another commander.....

    Welcome to the board Erica.
Will you be sailing in Alaska, or in SF Bay?

Good luck with C-188's transaction ('Wave').

If it does not work out; the sistership C-187 should be available soon... (shameless plug!) Once we are done making it pretty that is...

If you are interested, you can even have your pick of color!

Hey thanks! I always like having a backup plan. Looks like things are progressing along, so I think it's going to happen. I'd be glad to let any curious admirers know about her sistership, it'd be nice to have another one around. Too bad my business partner (sister) isn't into this. She's the elder one as is your boat. I'm glad you're in the process of fixing one up. I was looking at the Vanguard 33 & it nauseates me to see a nice boat going unused, forgotten...abandoned? etc...

Don't worry about the Vanguard it's being looked after. She's moored at one of the most protected locations on City Island. And I'm sure she will end up going to a good adventuresome owner.

The Ariel / Commanders are such great boats. They sail so agile. It doesn't feel much different than the Wayfarer dingy I grew up sailing. And in lighter winds they leave the bigger boats behind.
