    Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound or foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
    Turns again home.

Though I didnt know gene personally all the pictures and comments everyone posted tells me he was a great guy always willing to help others with a wealth of knowledge . I myself feel a sense of loss because of this , Its always sad when we lose one of the good guys so I will proudly place my flag at half mast for Captain Gene Roberts.

    Crossing the Bar

    .....
    Twilight and evening bell
    And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell
    When I embark:
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crosst the bar.

Great words from a great poet.
There is a stand-up anthem melody set to the poem (by Charles H.H.Parry) found in hymnbooks of the time.

[sorry, it does not compute. Tune sounds like it's played on a Harmonium.]

"...And may there be no sadness of farewell when I embark..."

let me tag on this anthem for us Q-tips - from a popular Brit TV series called 'New Tricks'.
The words by Mike Moran aren't Tennyson - they're more about attitude - and roll to a catchy tune
by B. & W. Bennett and Dennis Waterman's raucous pub crawl rendition:

    It's alright,
it's OK, doesn't really matter if you're old and gray -
It's alright, it's OK, listen to what I say:

It's alright, doing fine, doesn't really matter if the sun don't shine -
It's alright, it's OK, getting to the end of the day.

Hi tech, low tech, take your pick, 'cause you can't teach an old dog a brand new trick
I don't care what anybody says
At the end of the day.

    There's a place that I can find,
A drink or two to ease my mind,
    Golden days.

    It's alright, take your time,
Everybody thinks that you're past your prime,
    That's alright, it's OK
    Still got plenty to say.

CHEERS, here's to Gene, praise the good times....

google 'BBC New Tricks theme song' - and find the U-tube
