    Wasn't it Bill who just reminded us that Pearson was forced to stop using the name Commander by ChrisCraft?
    Supposedly Pearson decided to stop production because of threatened legal action...,.?
    Wonder what really happened? Why didn't CC complain at the beginning of the Commander run?

    Pearson could have upscaled the Commander rank to Commodore.
    Or given it the swedish Kommendor.
    Or chose the only other nautical name in Shakespeare's Tempest (from where Ariel probably came): Boatswain. (Bosun)
    Goes with Ensign, yes?

    BOSUN imco would have been an excellent boat class name.

    In the light of day, I went back and looked hard at the picture of the Capitan. The keel sits down behind the wheels of the trailer. There is a whisper of sweep in the keel, maybe. That would make it conform to the brochure. It does have a nice sweep at the rail line. And it is a Sparkman & Stevens hull. They have been known to draft a nice one now and then.

    Certainly Chris Craft spent a fair amount of time and money promoting their large powerboat as the "Chris Craft Commander." This was not a hidden product. It sounds as though Pearson didn't spend a great amount of time or money researching the Commander name. We have not been bothered either, so it sounds as though some accomodation was reached between the parties.

    William Tripp ALWAYS drafted a sweet set of lines. If there is any doubt, go here.

    Wear a towel cause your tongue will be hanging out. The Lentsch/Tripp 29 is certainly a member of the family. If I had the money, you had better believe that a Block Island 40 would be on my short list. What can I say, yawls tend to be great looking boats.

    This may not be the right forum but any suggestions would be welcome.I own the above boat.It was built by Aero Marine Plastics(Saulito)builder of the WC Tritons.Approx 15-20 were built???In 40+ yrs of sailing I have not seen another one although Iknow there were some in the Ventura CA area in the 60's.It is unusual as the doghouse slides forward on tracks to provide standing headroom,not a "pop-up" but a"push-forward"I am wondering if I have the last one still sailing?It is a Wm Tripp design.Any suggestions on how I might out if others exist??

    Long Shot.
    Tripp Naval Archetecture might have a lead on Bill Tripp designs, builders, and organizations. There may be a Tripp design association on the net, like our Albergs have a number of them. Our early fiberglass boats engender a lot of loyalty in their owners.

    Good Old Boat might have done an article on the Aero?
    Small Craft Advisor is another possibility for suggestions or creating a lead.
    Might try a query letter in Latitude 38.

    This website gets a lot of visitors. There are 3 search engines scouring these pages 24/7. It's possible that an authentic post with a title like Aeromarine 24 will end up on google. There may be some Aero24's looking for you!

    Yes indeed! I can see the 'Tripp' look in the photos of her floating. If she had a shoal keel with a swing tucked up in it, like some O'day 22, she'd be an excellent boat for Minnesota lakes. With the usual caveat of,'misquito repellant necessary.'

    While the Block Island and the Bermuda 40 seem to be more notable favorites, I have a strong affection for the Mercer 44 largely because the Columbia 50 are too much boat(for me).

    Aero24 photos

    Ken, I hope those Aero24 photos can stay with us. Not disappear like what happens to them blue-lines sometimes.

    The other views show a really charming and unique weekender.

    When camped you would have the slider open and have a bimini with side curtains or noseum netting over the whole accommodation and cockpit.
    Looks like there is only the V-berth below for sleeping.
    A tent would allow double berthing in the cockpit.

    I wonder if the keel could be redesigned (longer and less deep) to give the boat a little more shoal to make close in exploring easier.
    The English would have given her twin keels so she would remain upright when the tide went out.
