    Plumbing design for Ariel

I noticed there was not a thread, diagram or schematic
of the plumbing system of an Ariel. We all know
where Capt Carl Alberg put the intakes and outtakes
of the head. But there are no diagrams from the
water tank in the bow to the sink near the companion
way. Nor is there a diagram where the pipe is supposed
to be laid out from front to back. Nor is there any mention of
pumps electric or otherwise for the faucet. Nor is there any
mention of pipe size. Hold on maybe there is on size
but not length. How do you regulate water pressure.

The fresh water layout is by Pearson. There is an outlet at the low point of the water tank to which a hose is attached. The hose runs down the port side to the underside of the sink where it attaches to the pump faucet. All manual operation.

What size was the hose is my first question. Did it run through the wall with the door and in the portside settee and did it run close to the edge of the
settee in the vberth and main cabin. Im supposing they hid the hose in the
portside settee in the vberth. If I am wrong set me straight. Has anyone
connected a power pump or a manual foot pump.

P.S. On mine the previous owner put a soft tank in the back near the sink
so I am weighing my options. I put that tank in the garbage. The Orignal is
the front but I would change it to stainless. Using the manual or take the
    orignal.

The hose is half inch. And yes, it ran aft under the forward edge of the V berth and the quarter berth in the main cabin.

    Bill,

Did the factory put a hole in the wall and how did they do it so the pipe wouldn't chafe. Did they put in a grommet of some sort and was it up to
the edge tight. Oh and how did they get it through the bureau.

What type of hose was it and what would be a good replacement.

    Water tank Replacement

Has anybody found a manufacturer making the bow tank or something close to it? My fiberglass tank was losing it's gelcoat. Yuk.

It goes under the bureau and they just laid the green plastic hose through the oversized holes. No movement, no chafe. For a replacement, I plan using the h2o hose sold at most chandleries -- opaque stuff with a white pattern

To my knowledge, no one makes a stock tank that fits. There is a plan for a custom water tank in the appendix of the manual.

Same 1/2 inch. So the pipe has to bend down at the wall from the v berth into the main cabin correct?

If you are speaking about the pipe exiting from the tank, it extends about three inches straight out from the tank. Only about an inch of this extends into the area behind the head. The hose attaches to the straight pipe in the tank. The hose then curves off to the port side where it goes through a hole and under the V berth as it heads aft. Unless someone has removed all the structure under the berths, the holes for the water hose should still be there.

Since I have (apparently) the original green hose still in situ. I'll take some pics tonite and post them tomorrow which will show all of this.

Edit: Flog me with an anchor rode, I forgot to take the memory card for the camera with me. I'll get those pics this weekend, post them on Monday, if noone else does it first.

    Good

I have a sneaking suspicion that the guy who owned it before may have
    played a game with it.

    John,

I do not know whether this will help but there are flex tanks for the
bow. They sell them at Hamilton Marine West, Defender etc.
    Otherwise its custom.

Here are those pics of the hose path from the front water tank back to the sink.

    First pic: Hose exiting tank.

Second pic: Hose passing into and through main bulkhead, looking from bow towards stern (need to do some cleaning there, eh? ).

Not shown: Hose running under port settee/bunk.

Third pic: Hose coming out from under bunk, up to the sink (sink drain is the big hose in the pic).

    Hope this helps...
