A-273 'peace'

My Ariel is "Peace", #273, built in 1965. Other owners may be interested in the combination backrest/cabinets which I installed underneath the main cabin shelves several years ago. Attached are three pics showing how this works. This has provided considerable added storage for foods, galley gear, etc. in what was previously dead space. When the doors are open, they become shelves useful when preparing meals etc. When closed they are excellent backrests! The cushions are upholstered to match the bunk cushions.

How about some more photos of the first class work you've done?

Looks like you've got something against the hull (because of the trim piece one can see along the top. What have you got there?

Does the backrest effect with the cushion get the settee's head out far enuf to avoid the coach roof side? How much seat is left, or did you widen it/them? ETCetc!

New here, obviously, and excited to take advantage of this fantastic resource.

Might be getting A-273. Will know soon. Have spent the last two days inspecting it from bow to stern. Missing to do the masthead and haul-out, but so far things look good.

PEACE is a one owner boat, basically, as Iver and Terry bought her when she was one year old. It is currently moored on Bainbridge Island, WA.

I have many questions for the experts, soon posted in the tech section.

It makes my heart hurt seeing such a fine lady. What could of been.

Photo shows the little known 35' version of the Ariel.
Also notice that the bow is shaped to deflect water it encounters downward, so the deck stays relatively dry.
A far cry from those 'modern' wave-piercing narrow plumb bow racer/cruisers that constantly have combers crashing over the deck.

Congrats! I'm sure Peace's PO is happy to see her going to a competent adventuring boat-building captain. She's a good looking boat! (Love that spinnaker!)

I for one will be very interested to hear how our Ariels compare to your Nimble 20 as far as sailing characteristics and cruisability - I'm sure you'll enjoy the "standing headroom" and sea kindliness. At one point, one of our very adept members was going to convert his Ariel to a yawl rig. ;)

PS. Really enjoyed reading through your 5.9 website and all the beautiful pictures! Thanks for taking the time to meticulously write it all down.

BTW, just got the word that owner is willing to sell her to me!!!!! Price easily agreed upon, pending haulout. So excited!

congratulations!

based on your note about rusty hose clamps.... before you get underway, recommend you add a second (new) hoseclamp next to the existing ones if you are planning to leave the dock. Those factory tubes are pretty tough. the weak link in the hose and clamps.

So that was YOUR nimble I saw advertised. I love the idea of being able to nose right up to a beach, but I love the idea of 2500 pounds of lead 3.5 feet under me when the swells get nasty even more. Does make trailering more of a challenge, though. Any idea where and when you are going to haul out. It would be really cool to be able to take some measurements of that keel for my trailer project.

Congrats on the aquisition. I snooped out on the dock to see her yesterday. (or maybe it was thursday) and she looked nice. Just the usual fun and games of paint and hardware on an old boat, but easily worth the bother.

Congratulations Jan! I'd say that if you see a keel underneath upon haul-out; you are good to go! :) Everything else you can take care of...

Perhaps Iver could be persuaded to provide some good stories of A-273 for the board???? We do not get too many 'original' owners around here! :D

And I am sure he's got a tale or two to tell...
