Results of the 2018 hoppe regatta
Our racing fleet of one each Commander and Ariel hit the starting line promptly at 1300 hrs (1:00 PM). Both yachts chose to circumnavigate Treasure Island counter clockwise. Following the start, the Race Committee settled down for a leisurely bag lunch and a stroll to the Aquatic Center to inspect the heads. It was with some surprise, however, that about an hour after the start, NEMESES (C-151) appeared under the Bay Bridge headed for the finish! She circumnavigated the island in a hour and sixteen minutes.
ORINOCO FLOW (A-100) crossed the finish line only eleven minutes behind NEMESES. With that, the Race Committed dispersed with plans to reconvene at the Encinal Yacht Club at 1800 hrs (6:00 PM). And that’s where things went awry. Seems EYC failed to note on their calendar that a private party and a sail-in group were occupying the club on Saturday! All was not totally lost as we were able to gather in the Regatta Room for the awards ceremony. Following which, most of the group headed to a nearby restaurant on the Estuary (Pasta Pelican) for dinner.
