- Needless to say - I never saw this day coming!

Due to a work-related move to the East Coast (just northwest of Boston) the Mephisto Cat will need a new skipper...

I would be grateful if you could steer any interested parties looking for one of these amazing boats towards the Mephisto Cat's Gallery page:

I cannot believe I am actually considering selling - but I cannot take her with me...

I've known this for a few weeks now, but I've not brought myself to post any ads. This is the first small step...

Say it is not so!!!!!!!!

Did you know they have a little pond on that side of the country also? I think they call it the Atlantic Ocean or something. And you even have a trailor.

Rico,

Sorry to hear that! Plenty of good sailing in the Boston area! Why not take her?

I know you have done a lot of work on her, how much are you looking to get for her?

Seriously! We right coasters can pull together and help find storage or moorings or what-not! Just let us know!

Yes it is after all that work and attatchment you have to take a week off and trailer her cross country . too bad your company did'nt relocate you near D.C. we don't have quite the accent down here and the water is not as blue but your still sailing . But just think you'll almost be taking your commander home again.

Hi Rico, Sorry to hear you have to sell your Commander. She's a real beauty! I recently sold my 24' C&C and the new owners take possession this weekend. I'm still in the hunt for a Commander. I looked at one in MD a few weeks ago but she was too far gone for me. I also just missed one 4 miles from my house this past weekend. I believe it was hull #103. Cabin top and decks were very solid. Cockpit floor was soft due to cracks around the rudder/tiller post. Sails were original and there was not a motor. I went back on Sat. morning to take a second look and start the negotiation process. He was asking 7200.00. Unfortunately, someone bought the boat for 6k before I got there, which I think was too high. Sadly, I learned that the new owners don't have a clue, they have a 70 hp motor that they plan on installing on the boat. They also don't want to pay a yard to step the mast, they plan on stepping it themselves in the ocean once the boat is launched. I have a feeling this boat might be up for sale again in a few months.

Please keep me posted on your boat. Probably out of my price range, especially with the shipping cost from CA to NJ. I just did an approx. shipping cost for a 26' sailboat on yachtworld/transport services. Quotation came back at 2400.00, which was more reasonable than I thought. Anyway, you never know what might transpire between now and the end of the summer.

Good Luck to you.

Fritz

I still don't understand why you can't take the boat.

Since selling my Commander I visit here often and images of Mephisto Cat, my old Francine (now beautifully restored by Jake Shisha) and other boats never fail to prompt a serious case of seller's remorse. Your hard work has created one of the best examples of Classic Plastic and a tribute to Carl Alberg. You know you'll regret leaving her behind. Bring the boat to Boston!

Hey Rico,

Congrats on your new position. I join the ranks here on being sad to see you go. Might take a bit to wrap my head around that! Hopefully some loving, new Bay-based owner will do 155 right.

Alternately, here's an idea: Bring her to Michigan! I'm happy to keep an eye on her!

What are you doing with your second Commander??

Hi mates - sorry. I did not intend to go silent. I've just been traveling a lot lately...

I'd love to take her with me, but with the costs related to shipping, my longest-ever distance to the water (from the new home), the area's short season, and huge moorage and storage costs, AND limited time, I just cannot see how this will work well... Believe me. I think about this all the time! I cannot look at the Bay and think that I am actually planning on leaving it... And I cannot believe that I'm considering selling the Mephisto cat. THIS is very alien to me!

My move is not planned until the end of the summer - so the Mephisto Cat & her trusty crew will be doing some quality sailing between now & then. Maybe I'll even figure out a way to rationalize taking her - any insight will be appreciated!

I do plan on Sailing on the east coast - how could I not... but this will need to be in a different manner. I cannot take my crew pool with me either! (Well, the most important ones will be coming along, of course!). This is a move that will be good for us, but I will certainly miss the City & the Bay. I've moved cities, states, countries, continents & hemispheres multiple times, but the Bay is quite a good place to live & sail...

C-187 will likely remain in storage while the same guys that helped me with the Mephisto Cat finish her on their own... Then they will likely become the new skippers, at least temporarily...

More soon. Watch for the Mephisto Cat's new summer adventures coming soon!
