A-429 EXCALIBUR
Located in the north central upper peninsula of Michigan, about 15 miles east of Marquette.
I picked up this Ariel sloop a couple of years ago. It is an exact copy of the boat I learned to sail in the late 60’s/early 70’s on Chequamegon Bay, Lake Superior and I must have had a moment of mid-life crisis. Truth be told; not only am I more interested with power vessels; I just don’t have the time required to recondition and maintain a craft of this type.
The Ariel Association, is the only organization I found (through a quick internet search) dedicated to the preservation and operation of this model of Pearson. I feel the "EXCALIBUR" can be enjoyed for many more years in the right hands and you folks are apparently the experts.
Would any of your members or wanna-be members be interested in purchasing the "EXCALIBUR?" She is structurally sound; rigging & hardware good (winch bearings need attention); galley in very good original condition (had stainless wood/charcoal heater added); auxiliary engine is Atomic Four @ 39 HP.(alternator wiring should be replaced); has 4 sails-was told main getting worn but jib, staysail and spinnaker in good condition (may be original & getting aged); mast, boom & spinnaker pole original arrangement in good condition (although electrical wiring is brittle) and instrumentation/electronics present but of unknown condition.
All exterior wood & fiberglass sound but in need of refinishing. Trailer/cradle needs new tires-I pulled it home on existing tires-only 40 nervous miles.
History: Built @ West Shore Road, Portsmouth, Rhode Island & delivered to Detroit Power & Sailboat Sales, Detroit, MI. 1966
1966 to 1976 Unknown but assumed to be berthed on Lake Michigan.
1976 to 1987 Known ownership indicates berthed on Lake Michigan.
1987 to 2007 Owner used primarily on Lake Superior until fall of 2000. Placed in indoor storage until fall 2007.
2007 to present at my house under crude outdoor storage.
I’m asking $3800.00 for "EXCALIBUR" and her trailer/cradle. My next stop will be the local yacht club’s junior program before listing her to the general public.
Thanks for your time and Happy Sailing!!
