6503Ariel 235 is another Alberg rescue boat.
She was damaged by a marina and their insurance totaled her. The owners wanted to keep her out of the landfill so they bought her back from the insurance company. I ended up picking her up from them. We churched her up enough to get her back in the water last summer and let customers and friends take her out. One of our customers took a shine to her and bought her last fall. We have been taking care of a few items over the winter and the N.O. has plans for her interior.
235 is in pretty good shape, a few soft spots but over all the decks are quite sound. We removed some old hardware, filled some holes, recored the soft spots, painted the toe rails and applied new nonskid. The strong back had a bit of a sag to it and had a plate bolted on over the door to stiffen her up. We still need to cut out and replace the strong back. 235 is equipped with an Atomic 4. It ran pretty well after cleaning out the carb and giving her clean gas. We had to cut out the cockpit floor to get the old tank out. the pick up tube was rotted out so bad it would only deliver fuel from the top 1/3 of the tank. Last fall we fit it out with a 3 gallon outboard tank in the aft lazerette. The fwd/rev shifted was about 2.5' long and you would unscrew a deck plate on the cockpit floor and stick it in when you were under power. We have removed that setup and install a nice Morse single lever throttle/shifter.6502

After sailing and slowely restoring 235 Here are some pictures of how she looked last summer.

Many people (professionals, friends and myself) had a hand in sprucing her up.

Here are only pictures of the exterior. Interior has been changed as well.

Everything was repainted/revarnished except the topsides and spars over the last 4 years. Deck was fixed, roller furling added, new sails, everything was rebedded (is that a word?), electric inboard, shorepower to charge 4 group 27 batteries, and added a manual bilgepump as well. New nav lights and a xtra halyard for a cruising spinnaker (if anyone has a spare let me know). Left is wiring and part of the interior.
