Ariel 337?

Spoke (across 20yards of water) with the PO of Ariel 337 yesterday. He's now sailing a Alerion Express 28. He correctly ID'd my boat from a distance as a Commander. The search function doesn't seem to work for 337 or #337. Anyone know here whereabouts?

The registry has only limited information on A-337: Last known boat name was IZZY, skipper was a William Flato. Detroit hailing port, but boat was in Florida at the time of entry (sorry, no date). There is a E-mail address -- sog_56 at yahoo - you know the rest.

Let us know if you make contact . . We'd sure like to get an update on 337

Hi Kyle,
I sold 337 to an individual who planned to take it to Florida . It is my understanding that he was from the Detroit area so it may have been or is still in the Detroit area.

I know it was in Traverse City area soon after I sold it, but then I saw it in Harbor Springs in October of 2008 on a mooring. When the season closed, she was gone and I have not seem her since.

I also owned Commander #105 "b'bout". 105 was a Great Lakes boat, but I moved it to VA during and sailed it out of the York and Potomac Rivers. My work took me West so I sold it to friend of an Ariel owner. 105 was nearly lost in a Hurricane, but was rebuilt and is splendid looking these days. I was sorting through some sails I had and found the original Main to 105 a year or so ago. I thought it should get back to 105 so I contacted the owner and shipped it to him.

After sailing both boats, I preferred the Commander as I tend to day sail more than cruise and the long cockpit is really nice. Also, The mast support on the Commander is a better arrangement with post below going directly to the keel. The Ariel depends on the cabin divider bulkhead to support the mast load.

They are both splendid boats. I have many hours on an Ensign as well. I am a fan of all these Alberg boats.

I have been sailing on a C&C 27 most recently. She is a good boat, but I will always miss the pretty and well founded lines of the Pearson Alberg boats.
