Wanted...one inexpensive (read-FREE to CHEAP) outboard model Ariel in the extreme NE. Condition of standing/running rigging, sails, engine, interior not important as it will be extensively modified. The perspective new owner miss's the frustration of newly made parts not fitting and the itch of fiberglass dust on his skin. Once completed, boat to be used for cruise from Florida through the Bahamas ,across northern Cuba, then Mexico on down to the SanBlas islands.
Here's one from Craig's List in Maine:

Also check with NE Sailboat Rescue. He's got a Commander and an Ariel.
I'll keep an eye out for any boatyard derelicts.
Welcome back Frank! What happened to the Flicka?

The Flicka is a fine boat...very capable and faster than it looks on all points but to weather. Long story short....thee nicest sailing boat offshore I have sailed was Revival. The ariel is much faster than they should be as well.I know what mods I would do and am familiar with the boat.We hope to do a more extended cruise in 2 yrs and this would allow time for the restoration.PS...thanks for the welcome back and the links.

Welcome back from over here too, Frank. I find your desire completely understandable. However, if you finish three boats before I finish one I may not recover...
How about an Ensign hull to tie you over until another Ariel comes along;)(just kidding). More than once I have thought I should go into Ariel/commander resto/remod/recond. as a new career. How fun would that be?

Frank, Hi ,
Hit the above link and check it often for a find
NE sailboat rescue has an Ariel, but I think it's an inboard with a missing Volvo power plant.
You missed a freebie in Boston a couple of months back.
There was a man who posted here somewhere about one in coastal Georgia in a marina layed over on it's side, I think he said abandon
Good Luck, Carl

Thanks. I will keep looking but please remember me if a cheapy comes along.I promise I'll be kind to her:)
Revival's owner was selling her a while back. Maybe you could track him down and get the PO discount?
Can't wait to follow you next project! :D

Misc. ramblings. I truly do apprec. the 'welcome backs'...although I never really left. I have checked in often to see how others projects are coming. Its been nice to read of Ariel #1's cruise as well as Faith's tour of the Bahamas. In fact it has been others restoration work that has kept me thinking Ariel and dreaming up ideas.
I had a yamaha SRV snowmobile in 1988 that to me was a favorite.A used,10yr old 4 cylinder BMW sports car that was the most fun of any vehicle I've owned...not fast but a hoot. With boats...I've always thought of my time on Revival and especially the day sailing from Key Biscayne to near Bimini and up to Lake Worth inlet as an alltime "best sail". Most of it was in 20+knots of wind and 6+ft seas (at times ++) on the gulfstream.Revival seemed in her element.I was amazed at how bouyant the bow was and how smoothly she handled the waves and sailed.
I have just restored a 1964 Electra (mini Ariel) http://sailfar.net/forum/index.php?topic=1812.0 with intentions of keeping it in the Bahamas and just flying in rather than worrying about weather for crossings. It will be a great boat for tours to HopeTown and Little Harbour etc. Judy and I are KISS and a few weeks on the Electra will be fine. Since returning home this year, she has come to the conclusion she wants to retire and has set a 2yr plan to wind down her business (:D:) YIPPIE:D HURRAY;):):D) We have long talked of heading across northern Cuba and working our way down to the SanBlas islands with intentions of spending several months within that chain alone. The lil electra just ain't going to cut it for that.It will remain our Bahamas boat. The Ariel will become our 'cruising boat'.We've disscussed hauling and storing it at various destinations if we need to fly home etc.(3 not so little kids) We looked at several boats on the web but my heart goes out to ole Pearsons in general and Ariels in particular. They are pretty, sail SO sweet and have fairly shallow draft.So....thats how I got to this point...full circle.

Thanks Carl. That's the same boat tsprat mentioned a few posts back. I've been responding and hope to find it a new home. Just waiting on pics. I've been warned it is VERY dirty. It will get a lot dirtier once I get going...but cleaner in the end:D
Congratulations Frank!
- I think I was coming on the board as you acquired the Flicka.
I'm glad that you are on the lookout for a new Ariel... this means that one Ariel more will be well taken care of...
I am looking forward to seeing your progress.

I was thinking about going to check and see what the trailer this boat is sitting on looks like. Any chance anyone here has already gone to check her out? The picture he posted is not of the boat he's trying to sell. I would so love to have a trailer for Eight Bells... it would solve a lot of storage problems.
If I go down that route I might have a really cheap, trailer-less Ariel to sell to you Frank if things don't work out with your crittery boat. Do you have any word on that yet??? I need a cheap trailer and you need a cheap boat... maybe we could make it work!

I've never used Craigslist (Canadian eh) but I simply replied where you 'click' reply and typed a message? I'm better at sanding boats than computers

I think that should have worked. That's the way I do it too. He must have just liked me better (haha). He said he had somebody who was interested but he didn't think would follow through. He's going to let me know if she's still available this weekend. If so perhaps we could meet up and check her (and her trailer) out.

In a cost savings move,my server combined my travel acc. with my work acc. Suddenly I was over capacity with saved e-mails and they were being bounced. I missed a bunch until it got straightened out:(
