View Full Version : Rudder thread (started in 2001)
(humbly submitted:))
Don't know if it is somehow my computer
but the new thread menu on the top does not allow me to go back into the thread in an orderly fashion.
In fact it seems jumbled. Looks to me like the Years are jumbled up
Can't even access day-before-yesterday's posts, for example. They seem to be missing.
"More replies below current level." is out of sync - not appearing at the end of this new system's page(s) - as it has.
I'm not a fan of this new "convenience?"
I liked the original and simpler way of going back in time long page by long page.
I liked the orderly time progression that now is confusing.
I'm uncomfortable with each post that is brought forward numbered with a ONE - as if it were the beginning of the thread. Pointless,
The first post of the whole thread should be numbered with a #1.
Every subsequent post should have its own sequential and individual number always assigned to it.
ANYWAY
This is how it appears on my computer.
Don't know if this computer is somehow influencing my access to the PearsonArielAssociation Forums.
Sorry if this is the case.....
Did a quick run through of the pages in the rudder thread. Pages went from #1 to #316 with no repeats. But then, this was a sampling of pages so maybe I missed something. . Can you specify a number on the list of 22 pages at the top of the first page (or last) where you ran into the repeat of page #1?
Thanks for the reply, Bill.
You asked:
post appearing currently is Westgate 'rudder looks good' dated 'today'
Then top of menu:
mrgnstrn 'rudder replacement..' 09-28-2003
Scott Galloway 'rudder issues..' 09-06-2002
Scott Galloway 'rudder discussions..' 10-03-2001
commanderpete 'A little more info?..' 10-04-2001
Ed Ekers 'Scott, I agree...' 10-4-2001
....to 26 sequential posts.
Then in same indent column it goes to:
Tim G1N 'Rudder materials for 382..' 02-25-2005
commanderpete 'Good price for...' 02-25-2005
Then next comes comes that awkward phrase: "More replies below current depth"
And an immediate repeat of that phrase (never seen THAT before.)
[we are in the middle not the end of a listing.]
[I would usually cursor that phase and another page would appear.
If I wanted more current post, I would cursor the phrase again and scroll down to whatever - hopefully current posts.
Then I go back a few posts on the menu until the gist of the current discussion shows up.]
Next two more posts appear: Tony G & Tim G1N - 2-26-2005.
Then "More replies......." is repeated.
Then the list jumps to
Theis 'I loaded up the wood with.....' 05-07-2007.
A single reply from Tim Mertinooke - 05-07-2007.
Then AGAIN "More replies below....."
Then a series of posts ending in
Westgate 'Rudder looks good..' today
Then (believe it or not) the page jumps back to
ebb 'that bronze bolt that holds..' 09-06-2002
Later those posts jump to
t coolidge 'final rudder renovation..' 08-05-2004
verbatim [from the top of the menu appearing above the Westgate post]
(more or less:))
Ebb, here’s a possible fix:
Go to top of the forum page and to the line just below the box that says "Pearson Ariel Association Forums" on the left and "Welcome Ebb" on the right. The following buttons are shown on that line:
User CP - FAQ - Members List - Calendar -New Posts - Search - Quick Links -Log Out
Click on "User CP"
In the vertical box on the left of the next screen, click "Edit Options"
Scroll down the page on the next screen to the box titled "Thread Display Options"
Inside that box is a box titled "Thread Display Mode"
The window to the right with the down arrow should read "Linear Oldest First"
If not, click on the down arrow and select Linear Oldest First.
Let me know if this works for you.
Bill. followed the path back and found the window correctly reading 'Linear Oldest First."
This command is not working for this computer.
I do find that the crazy mix is consistent, it's always there now.
Some other setting may be off or not understood by this machine.
Thanks.....:(
HEY BILL,
Think I figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I reset the Linear Oldest First window by choosing each one and then choosing back the Oldest first
Then set the appropriated multiple window (forget where) to show 20 Posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then I hit the submit(?) window way at the bottom.
Now the thread IT"S JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS!
and the menu thingie up to is disappeared
and there is the old linear path back to the past.
Liked the first line of each person's post in blue type.
Guess you can't have everything
:D
