I am parting with the Pearson Commander 'Ol' Blew' that I have owned for just 3 short years. It is currently located on Lake Ray Hubbard near Dallas, Tx.

Here is a list of some of the things I have done to this boat:

installed a traveler system
added a Mercury 4hp 2-stroke short shaft
installed new/longer jib sheet tracks
replaced most of the halyards and all of the sheets
installed spinnaker rigging
rebuilt the masthead after the old one cracked
did a bottom job last December
refinished all wooden parts
replaced battery
installed a battery charger/tender (requires 110V power)

The boat has a decent main and a roller furling genoa. It is equipped with a spinnaker and has the original wooden spinnaker pole. This boat is sound and is ready to sail. The only thing a new owner may want to do to this boat is to refinish the deck. It was painted just before I bought it and it is now stained with bird droppings. Pictures of this boat can be seen on www.davidvines.com (http://www.davidvines.com). Please respond on this thread with any questions or if you want additional pictures. I have not listed this boat anywhere else. I thought I would give the real enthusiasts the first chance.

With no replies I am wondering what I did wrong.
This boat is complete and sound.
Is the price too high? Then what is a reasonable price?
Is there just nobody among you looking for a Commander right now?
Did anyone go to the website to look at the pictures?
You know that guy in the v-berth is just napping, right?
He's not dead, and he doesn't come with the boat.
Would someone please give me some hints.
I need to sell this boat.

Well,,, I went and looked at the pictures, (twice) it's an absolutely beautiful Commander. I don't see where you did anything wrong. Selling anything right now is a daunting task. Believe me, I've got tractor trailer, racecars, motorcycle sailboat etc. for sale unless you just want to give it away, ( which I just did with a 1967 Dodge Dart GT ) that's about the only way to get something moved.
Maybe if the caretaker/security guard / crew member came with the sale That might be a great selling enhancement;), looks to be very fit, probaly cheap to feed:D. Good Luck, Carl

I did go to your site to take a looksee and spent more than just a few minutes wishing I had yours instead of mine. The problem with this forum for trying to sell a boat is we all already have an A/C.(except perhaps "Commander Willbe" who is sitting just a few small states away and should probably targeted for the hard sell) I always tell people who are looking at old fiberglass boats to remember, they are alot easier to buy than to sell.

I don't know about that. When I was boat shopping, I lurked on this site for a couple of years before my Ariel came along.

That is a nice looking Commander. I think this is just a hard time to sell anything...

I guess I didn't find the site until after I picked up 'ole 227, Wish I did though as I had a hard time finding a Commander when I was looking, and I've seen quite a few come up for sale on this site since that I would have had a lot of interest in. Including 229 here.

She's a pretty boat alright!
Problem is how do you get the word out.
Owners here in your area will spread the word.
There's no doubt that some 'guests' might be searching for a Commander.

Time of year... winter - holidays...
- when spring comes thoughts turn to sailing and owning.

Might think about an ad in a sailing rag:
Good Old Boat
Small Boat Advisor
and on the west coast here we have Latitude 38, a monthly free sailing advertiser that has developed a reputation for itself with opinions, advice and great writing. And a huge active 'for sale' section. You may have something like this on the Texas coast.
Location of your boat may also be a factor if it needs to be transported and it doesn't have a trailer.

Good luck! You'll find her a good home!

Later post:
Just got an email note in the inbox that AlLorman's post had arrived. (see below)
But also an email in the form of a "news" alert from Good Old Boat that a subscriber's 26' 1962 Seafarer Polaris is for sale.
What precipitated that action I'm not sure, but Good Old Boat is a momandpop outfit which makes their mag a lot more interesting and more family (ie forgivable:)) than mags NOT mentioned here.
Don't know what one would have to do to get GOB to email their whole subscriber base for you!!!

You can also list your boat for free on a great web site in Texas: http://www.sailingtexas.com/cboats.html

Thanks for all of the good advice, guys. I have listed it with the sailingtexas website. I will keep you posted on my progress. Who knows? You may have a new Commander owner for your group soon. I will definitely tell them about you.

I have sold C229. Thanks for all of your good advice over the last three years. The new owner has already visited this site and I believe he will be an active participant.

Cheers Dave!

You did a real nice job fixing up 'Ol Blew. She looks great.

Do you have a new boat?

Yes, we have a new boat. It's a 2001 Hunter 212. We lost a crew member and needed a smaller, more easily sailed vessel. I already miss the Commander, but at least I still have something to sail. Good luck to you guys. I will probably be checking in from time to time to see the amazing work you do fixing up these great old boats. Cheers, David.

Nice action shot. My friend has a H23. Lots of fun, trailers easy and dry--not so much spray in the cockpit

Enjoy

I'm going to get some longer handrails like 'Ol Blew has, one of these days

It's funny you would mention the handrails because if we had not sold the boat we were going to do some upgrades. One of them was to remove the handrails and put some inboard jib tracks in their place. The only real problem we had with this boat is that it would not point with comparable boats in our racing fleet. We were going to swap out the 155 genoa for a 110 and use the new inboard jib tracks to try to get it to point higher. I guess I'll never know if that would have worked.
