I realize I was MIA for a while, but could someone give me a brief on what happened to Navman marine products? Several years ago while stocking up I bought their 3100 series instrument package and a chart plotter(5100?) and a VHF too, now that I think about it. Haven't been looking for electronics since then but I did happen to notice the other day they are not on anyone's web site anymore. Were they banished? Should I quietly tuck them in a dumpster somewhere across town? Did I jump in with both feet too soon? Maybe I don't want to know...

not to worry.. with a couple google searches. it looks like Navman has been rebranded as Northstar for the north american market.

if they work, keep them. :)
One intriguing instrument in the 310 series is called the Multi. All your info (wind, sonar, water temp, trip log, speed) and then some can be taken to ONE 4" display!
On the other hand if we wanted radar from Northstar the smallest radom is FIVE FEET! Maybe it could double as a dinghy in a pinch.
In an age when everything gets smaller, why hasn't radar?
Except for the electronics isn't it still WW2 technology?
Something smaller even different must be on the horizon.
Like
Infra red image technology...
Some kind of black light laser spatter receiver...
GPS traffic locater with convergence bearings...
Ultra sensitive sound/dopler recorder...
Something that doesn't need a giant marshmellow on a stick...

Bill, thanks for putting my mind at ease.
Ebb, at the time we purchased 'the package' they were throwing in a free multi-meter head. I think the idea was to have it mounted somewhere in the library below versus having just one instrument head cluttering up the cockpit. Of course you have to fiddle with some buttons to get all the info and I don't believe one can display all the functions at once. That makes a big difference for me! I still don't know just where I want the 3 main readouts and the chart plotter. Been giving some serious thought to ditchin the latter and tying into a laptop.
