I found and put down some money on a 1975 Pearson 26 for my brother-in-law. Reminds me of our Ariels and I read were they made a Pearson 26 weekender like our Commanders. The boat is now a slip away from my goodboat. The boat is in good condition with a new painted bottom and good sails and everthing. Get this, it has a broken spreader base (have replacement) the same spreader base that was broken on my Commander, what are the odds? Did some reading up. The boat has a cast iron keel (fin). It also has an aluminum rudder shaft, I inspected it, has a slight wobble, will replace bearings soon and inspect the shaft. I will also pull the boat this fall and fiberglass in the through hulls, I don't trust 30 y/o through hulls. Everything that I have read about this boat says it's a good safe family sailboat, a good weekender. Anyone with thoughts or knowlege about the Pearson 26 would be welcome.

You have checked out ?
http://dan.pfeiffer.net
For years has been a high energy site for these boats.
He has since moved on to a larger Pearson, but there remains a lot of info on problems, fixes, remodels and resources for the 26.

ebb... Thanks, what a great site, the Pearson 26 site has so much good information, just about everything anyone would want to know about the 26 boat. The info is helpful for any sailboat. I think my brother-in-law will like this boat. :)

Woops! I just osted this on your other thread - but I see Mr. Ebb has beaten me to the punch...

Dan Pfeiffer has a really good P26 site for his ex-P26 - Pyxis (http://dan.pfeiffer.net/p26/boat.htm).

And here are his P26 MAINTENANCE AND DESIGN ISSUES (http://dan.pfeiffer.net/p26/buying.htm) from the above page.

PS. Glad you listened to C-Pete's voice of reason. Your Commander is a gem!

mbd, I get carried away sometimes. I took notice of this Pearson 26 when I saw it caught under the pier where I keep my boat with an incomming tide. Took some effort to free it before real damage. Cold water, cold wind, rickety pier, alone at the yard, some people have boats who shouldn't.This 26 looked somewhat neglected but sound, saw a fellow the next day mentioned the boat, he said it was his and for sale. My brother-in-law wants a boat for week ends and to race me... I bet our Ariels and Commanders are faster...I hope...wait...our boats are heavier and carry less sail...fin keel vs. our long keel...could be interesting.

No doubt you'll be a bit slower, but you'll look a helluva lot better getting there! :D
