The Texas Mariners and Cruisers Association went to Double Bayou on Trinity Bay this weekend. Double Bayou is --- just that, two bayous on the east side of Trinity bay (upper east side of Galveston Bay), about 22 miles from Kemah on the west side. I've never done this trip so didn't know what to expect. All they told me was to bring a gang plank---- and not because my son's Halloween costume was a pirate outfit. Here's the plank.

View coming into the bayou from Trinity bay. Some shallow water to be found all around here. Watch the depth or there be trouble ahead.

Nice little town at the mouth of the bayou. Some guys on the front porch (assume it must be their vessel here) asked if we wanted to buy shrimp. We had packed steaks in the cooler, so ---

On the way up the bayou----- for a winding 2 miles. Surprisingly, the water was deeper than the bay! Nine--- yes nine feet! But we followed the guy in front of us, hoping that his Ericson drew more water and so we'd have a minute or two warning of impending doom.

Check this out! We're at the dock. Now I understood why we needed a gang plank. Also needed a big weed wacker--- or a swarm of hungry locusts. Are we still floating? What happens when the tide goes out? Hope none of those Texas critters can climb aboard. What did those guys sailing up the pacific coast in the Commander have to say ----nightmares about sea snakes slithering up the drains? Too many water moccasins around here. Oh, and lots of alligators as well. Heck, its Halloween!

My son is trying to decide if its safe to come ashore. "Dad, why did we sail over here just to run aground on purpose into a cow pasture?"

Oh, lookie here! A flock of Clorox bottle boats are "anchoring out" in the cow pasture too! What fun!! (Wait a minute, boats don't travel in flocks, but it seems to fit the halloween bat theme)

So peaceful. Under the shade of the Ole Oak tree. Good thing Hurricane Rita missed us------ this tree wouldn't be here anymore. Come to think of it, neither would the boat!

Is that an Ariel hidden in there?

Serenity---- but spray on plenty of mosquito repellant.

On our way home. Stiff wind, broad reach, dolphins riding the bow wave. Beats the heck out of soaping the neighbors windows. That's one of my neighbors at the helm--- wearing the designer hat. Lets go soap his windows tonight anyway.
